Veem House for Performance in Amsterdam – this is one of those rare findings that are able to show us something different from the standard tourist routes. And this place is unusual even for the Netherlands – it is the only pantomime theatre in the country. The theatre is relatively young, it grew out a small studio. Veem House for Performance is an international co-production platform for contemporary performing arts, based in Amsterdam. Veem House for Performance represents outstanding professional performing artists, specific programs, international collaborations and has a really unique location. Well, it is a pantomime theater. Strictly speaking, there you can find other genres, but always related to it. For example, a mixture of pantomime ballet with traditional theater, with clowning, with something else – lots of variants. Performances here take place not often – usually in a month there are 1-2 events, but they are always of a very high quality. There are other projects – from concerts to master classes.
The troupe likes modern performances, so all forms of theatrical innovation are welcome here. And since it is a high quality theater, and well-qualified actors are pleased to come here to work, eventually it is something completely unforgettable. The performance here can seem to be surprising, or extraordinary, but always interesting.
Usually series of short sketches are shown here. It is the specificity of the pantomime theater. It is also caused a stage construction: it is not separated from the viewer, because for the mime performances it is important that all the actors were clearly visible.
